Vice Minister Zhang Zhili Meets with Cuban Deputy Agriculture Minister Gonzalez

Zhang Zhili, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, met with Telce Gonzalez, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Cuba, in Beijing on May 25. They exchanged views on deepening agricultural cooperation between China and Cuba. 

Vice Minister Zhang noted that China and Cuba have achieved fruitful results in practical agricultural cooperation. China-aided agricultural technology projects in Cuba have progressed smoothly. The two sides have worked together in areas such as rice, livestock and poultry, maize, and Juncao technology, and have made solid progress in fields including rice variety breeding and selection. These efforts have helped enhance Cuba’s capacity to ensure food security and improve livelihoods. He said he hopes the two sides continue to deepen cooperation, boost experience sharing related to agricultural and rural governance, and jointly promote agricultural development and rural prosperity in both countries. 

Deputy Minister Gonzalez spoke highly of China’s achievements in agricultural and rural development. He said Cuba hopes to actively support the implementation of China-aided agricultural projects in Cuba and achieve more tangible outcomes. He also said Cuba welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest in Cuba, so as to support the country’s agricultural development and improve food security.
