Vice Minister Zhang Xingwang met with Emmanuelle Soubeyran, Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), in Beijing on April 16. They held in-depth exchanges on strengthening practical cooperation between China and WOAH.
Vice Minister Zhang emphasized WOAH’s indispensable role as the world’s sole intergovernmental organization specializing in veterinary affairs. He noted that China has progressively strengthened its partnership with WOAH, yielding substantial outcomes. Moving forward, he stressed the importance of deepening mutually-supportive partnership, particularly in areas such as the transboundary animal disease control, to enhance global animal health governance. Zhang reiterated China’s commitment to actively participating in WOAH’s initiatives, contributing Chinese expertise to global animal health, and supporting WOAH’s leadership in the sector to promote the sound development of global animal health.
Director General Soubeyran commended China’s contributions to global animal health, acknowledging its success in veterinary practice and its transparent, decisive approach to controlling animal diseases. She underscored China’s influential role in the global veterinary sector, noting that WOAH’s efforts are strongly supported by China’s involvement. She expressed WOAH’s eagerness to expand practical cooperation with China to refine global animal health governance and develop a more robust, efficient global animal health system.
