Zhang Zhili, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, and Luis Rua, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil, co-chaired the seventh meeting of the China–Brazil Subcommittee on Agriculture in Beijing on March 23. The meeting comprehensively reviewed the progress in bilateral agricultural cooperation since the subcommittee’s sixth meeting in 2019 and discussed key areas of bilateral agricultural cooperation.
Vice Minister Zhang said that agriculture, a sector of great interest to all walks of life in both countries, plays a pivotal role in bilateral relations. In recent years, under the framework of the China–Brazil Subcommittee on Agriculture, China and Brazil have yielded pragmatic outcomes in areas such as high-level visits, scientific and technological innovation, and multilateral collaboration, boosting the rapid expansion of bilateral agro-trade. China seeks to work with Brazil to unlock new potential for cooperation in areas such as industrial and supply chain resilience and agricultural machinery, and promote the green transformation of agriculture, to play a constructive role in ensuring stable and undisrupted global food industry and supply chains.
Vice Minister Rua noted that Brazil highly values Brazil–China agricultural relations. He also agreed with China’s views on further tapping the cooperative potentials between Brazil and China. In addition, he said Brazil seeks to work with China to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as agricultural investment and trade and the regulation of bio-inputs, while promoting agricultural development and food security.
Carlos Goulart, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil, also attended the meeting.
