Second Meeting of China–Myanmar Agricultural Cooperation Committee Convenes

Zhang Zhili, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, and Tin Htut, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Myanmar, co-chaired the second meeting of the China–Myanmar Agricultural Cooperation Committee in Beijing on September 2. 

Vice Minister Zhang reviewed progress in China–Myanmar cooperation since the last meeting, including that in agricultural cooperation mechanisms, economic and trade interactions, food security, and other areas. He also held in-depth discussions with the Myanmar side on topics of mutual interest, including green and sustainable agriculture, post-harvest processing of agri-products, digital agriculture, and the application of smart farming technologies. Zhang said China seeks to work with Myanmar, based on Myanmar’s development priorities and needs, to enhance capacity building and technology exchanges in the above-mentioned areas and jointly expedite the establishment and operation of relevant demonstration projects.  

Deputy Minister Tin Htut spoke highly of China’s achievements in agricultural and rural development, and expressed his appreciation for China’s support for Myanmar’s agricultural development and food security. He said Myanmar hopes to draw on China’s experience in agricultural development and strengthen practical cooperation in areas such as vegetable breeding, livestock farming, and aquaculture. He added that Myanmar seeks to foster closer ties with China at all levels, including government, research institutions, and market entities, so that the fruits of agricultural cooperation could benefit more people.
