Source:MARA Date:2025-07-29

The Sixth China–South Korea Joint Release of Fishery Resources for Stock Enhancement was held in Yantai, Shandong Province, on July 29. Senior officials from the Bureau of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China and the Fisheries Policy Office of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of South Korea attended the event.

The Yellow Sea is a traditional fishing ground and a shared marine ecosystem for generations of Chinese and South Korean fishermen. Therefore, the conservation and sustainable use of fishery resources in the Yellow Sea is vital to both countries’ fishery development and the well-being of the fishing communities. Since the signing of the Sino-South Korean Fisheries Agreement in 2000, the two governments have cooperated through the Joint Committee on Fishery in multiple areas including fishing access arrangements, fishery resource survey, and maritime law enforcement, achieving fruitful results.

Since 2018, the two sides have jointly held fish release and enhancement events for six times. A total of 3.56 million fry of aquatic species were released into the Yellow Sea during this year’s event, including black porgy, swimming crabs, and greenfin horse-faced filefish. A total of over 11.46 million fry of various aquatic species have been released over the years, demonstrating the shared confidence and determination of both countries’ fishery authorities to deepen cooperation, safeguard marine resources, and jointly conserve the ocean.

Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, China Coast Guard, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Shandong Province, and relevant departments of Yantai Municipal People’s Government, as well as the Embassy of South Korea in China, the National Institute of Fisheries Science of South Korea, and the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency attended the event.
