Vice Minister Jiang Wensheng Attends 44th Session of FAO Conference

Vice Minister Jiang Wensheng led a delegation to the 44th Session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). During the Session, he delivered a keynote speech outlining Chinas agricultural achievements and proposals for future cooperation.

Vice Minister Jiang emphasized that the Chinese government consistently regards innovation as the key driver of agricultural and rural development. Through institutional reform, policy support, and advances in science and technology, China has further energized farmersenthusiasm for crop cultivation, built a sustainable agri-food system, and strengthened the foundation of national food security. With annual grain output exceeding 700 million tons, China has not only ensured a stable domestic food supply, but also made meaningful contributions to global food security. 

He put forward three proposals to foster agricultural innovation: 

1. Enhance policy guidance and coordination in agricultural innovation, and make full use of the FAO platform to promote policy synergy and mutual learning; 

2. Strengthen R&D and the application of agricultural science and technology by addressing common global challenges through joint research and collaborative innovation, and by promoting the development of accessible, affordable innovative solutions; 

3. Expand investment and resource mobilization in agricultural innovation by encouraging the active participation of governments, private sector capital, and international financial institutions. 

Vice Minister Jiang also participated in a side event on South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) and the 13th Annual Consultation Meeting (ACM) of the FAO-China SSC Programme. Additionally, he conducted field visits to Italian agricultural enterprises.    

During the conference, Vice Minister Jiang met with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu for a bilateral discussion. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between China and the FAO.
