The 92nd General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) was held in Paris, France, from May 25–29. Huang Baoxu, WOAH Delegate from China and President of the WOAH Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific, led the Chinese delegation and chaired the Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific meeting.

This year’s session focused on topics including global animal health governance, the development and application of veterinary vaccines, and improving the performance of veterinary systems. The assembly called on all countries to continue to advance the “One Health” approach and address global challenges on animal disease transmission and public health risks through joint efforts in the IT application in the veterinary sector, safeguarding of a stable vaccine supply, and enhanced prevention and control of cross-border animal diseases.

The assembly recognized China as having negligible risk of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) and as being free from rinderpest, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, and African horse sickness. Huang Baoxu highlighted China’s compulsory vaccination strategy against animal diseases and its integrated prevention and control approach combining vaccination with culling. He shared China’s experience in preventing and controlling animal diseases such as peste des petits ruminants (PPR). He also provided an overview of the objectives and progress of African swine fever prevention and control efforts in Asia and the Pacific.

WOAH delegates from 183 countries and regions, as well as representatives from international organizations including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Health Organization, attended the session.
