Minister Han Jun met with Alfredo Fratti, Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, in Beijing on May 23. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening China-Uruguay agricultural cooperation.
Minister Han noted that, under the strategic guidance of the heads of state of both countries, China and Uruguay have achieved significant results in agricultural cooperation. He emphasized the need to advance key cooperative projects such as beef cattle germplasm and the China-Uruguay Demonstration Farm, with a view to achieving mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. Minister Han expressed China’s readiness to work with Uruguay to cultivate new highlights in bilateral agricultural cooperation and to elevate its level and quality.
Minister Fratti stressed Uruguay’s high regard for the pivotal role of agriculture in bilateral relations. He expressed Uruguay’s commitment to deepening cooperation with China in agricultural technology innovation, expanding agricultural trade. In agricultural cooperation, Uruguay stands ready to meet China halfway to achieve further progress.
Following the meeting, the two ministers signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the development of China-Uruguay Demonstration Farm in Uruguay, and the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of joint laboratory for sustainable beef cattle farming and breeding.
