Vice Minister Ma Youxiang Attends the FAO High-Level Ministerial Event for Small Island Developing States, Least Developed Countries and Landlocked Developing Countries

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) hosted a High-Level Ministerial Event for Small Island Developing States, Least Developed Countries and Landlocked Developing Countries (SIDS, LDCs and LLDCs) in Rome, Italy, on June 29. Ma Youxiang, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, was invited to the panel on addressing climate change and delivered remarks.  

Vice Minister Ma said that the Chinese government has enhanced its capacity in agriculture to respond to climate change by setting up systems to promote green development, practicing low-carbon farming, and improving agricultural S&T equipment. China supports FAO's efforts in making SIDS, LDCs and LLDCs its strategic priorities, and stands ready to implement the South-South Cooperation projects through the China-FAO SSC Trust Fund under the framework of the Global Development Initiative, so as to help developing countries transform their agri-food systems and facilitate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.   

FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu delivered opening remarks and high-level representatives from over 50 member countries attended the event.  

Ambassador Guang Defu, Permanent Representative of China to the UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture, attended the event.
