The 2023 China-Vietnam Joint Event for Enhancement and Release of Fishery Resources in the Beibu Gulf was held in the Beilun River estuary in Dongxing, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on May 6. Ma Youxiang, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, attended the event and delivered remarks.

Vice Minister Ma pointed out that the enhancement and release of fishery resources into the Beibu Gulf is an important means of conserving aquatic resources and maintaining ecological balance in the gulf. It is also an effective way to promote fishery sustainable development and increase fishermen’s income, which serves the interests of the fishermen of both countries and meets their expectations. Since 2017, China has released a total of over 226 million fry of various aquatic species, including red seabream, blackhead seabream and redtail prawn, into the Beibu Gulf, and has seen positive results in fish restocking as the output of major aquatic species has increased significantly.

Vice Minister Ma said China is ready to actively promote fishery cooperation with Vietnam in the Beibu Gulf, synergize strategies regarding fishery development, coordinate positions on international fishery affairs, and continuously deepen the relations between the fishery sectors of both countries.

Nguyen Quang Hung, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, and Xu Xianhui, Vice Governor of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, attended the event and delivered remarks. Representatives from the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Central Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, the China Coast Guard, and other ministries also participated in the event. A total of about 100 million fry of aquatic species were released into the Beibu Gulf, including yellow grouper, mangrove red snapper, blackhead seabream, yellowfin seabream, spotted seabass, giant tiger prawn, Japanese tiger prawn, and Chinese horseshoe crab.
