The second meeting of the Coordination Mechanism for the Establishment of a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Demonstration Base for Agricultural Technology Exchange and Training was held in Beijing on Apr. 24. Ma Youxiang, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, attended the meeting and delivered remarks.
The meeting set the following targets for the base’s future work: First, adopt innovative measures to give full play to the base in organizing exchange, training and demonstration projects. Second, adopt concrete measures and seek breakthroughs in exchange and cooperation, S&T cooperation, talent training, and cooperation to improve productivity. Third, successfully organize important foreign affairs events including SCO forums on poverty reduction and sustainable development. Fourth, generate a number of highly advanced agricultural S&T achievements that are widely applicable to the real needs of SCO member states in areas such as dryland agriculture and the utilization of salt-affected soils. Fifth, continue to carry out cooperation in higher education and vocational education related to agriculture. Sixth, work to cooperate in digital agriculture, precision agriculture, and smart agriculture, among other areas.
The meeting emphasized that the establishment of the base is a systematic and comprehensive project that requires the efforts of all parties. Different departments should coordinate with each other on all fronts to build the base into a high-quality sharing platform that serves all SCO member states and facilitates the Belt and Road Initiative.
Dou Jingli, Deputy Governor of Shaanxi Province, attended the meeting and delivered remarks. Heads of relevant departments of the coordination mechanism also participated in the meeting.
