MARA Facilitates WFP in Aid Supplies to Afghanistan

Source:MARA Date:2022-02-07

The MARA facilitated the delivery of humanitarian relief supplies purchased by the World Food Program (WFP) in China to Afghanistan recently by assisting 115 emergency rescue trucks in exiting from the Horgos Port, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The trucks, valued at about USD 4 million, are to be mainly used for transporting emergency relief food in Afghanistan. Shipped from Shangqiu, Henan Province, they were transported by land to Xinjiang, and then arrived in Afghanistan via Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, covering a total distance of about 5,800 kilometers, including nearly 4,000 kilometers in China.

Upon WFP's request for support and facilitation, the MARA acted swiftly and set up a joint working group with strong support from competent departments and relevant provinces (autonomous regions) of China, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, the National Health Commission, the General Administration of Customs, the National Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention, as well as Henan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The working group developed a detailed truck transportation plan featuring a closed-loop transportation in two batches in China and facilitation measures for customs clearance, taking into account the requirements for COVID-19 control and long-distance, large-scale and cross-provincial rapid passage.
