The 17th International Agricultural Trade Policy Conference was held at Renmin University of China on June 25. Tao Huaiying of MARA, China’s Chief Veterinary Officer, attended the conference and delivered remarks.

CVO Tao noted that the world is witnessing profound changes unseen in a century, with unilateralism and protectionism on the rise, and global agricultural industrial and supply chains now at a critical juncture of deep restructuring. Over the next five years, global agriculture will be characterized by complex and severe food security challenges, intertwined factors driving volatility in agri-product prices, a coexistence of opportunities and challenges in agri-tech cooperation, considerable growth potential in agricultural services trade, and an accelerated transformation of global food and agriculture governance system. Against this backdrop, it is imperative to leverage high-quality trade to safeguard global food security, support market stability, promote scientific and technological innovation, upgrade the entire agricultural value chain, and enhance international cooperation in food and agriculture.

CVO Tao also said that China stands ready to work with all parties to uphold openness and inclusiveness and safeguard the multilateral trading system, to pursue innovation-driven development and foster new drivers of trade growth, and to promote green trade to advance sustainable agricultural development.

Liu Jiannan, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade; Zhu Xinkai, Executive Vice President of Renmin University of China; Dosso Abou, Ambassador of Côte d'Ivoire to China; and Mark Richardson, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Canada in China, also attended the conference and delivered remarks. The conference released the 2026 China Agricultural Products Trade Development Report.
