Zhang Zhili, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, met with Osmar Junior, Deputy Minister of Social Development and Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger of Brazil, in Beijing on May 28. They exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in poverty reduction. 

Vice Minister Zhang stated that China and Brazil enjoy frequent exchanges across various agricultural sectors and have continuously deepened cooperation in areas such as poverty reduction, rural development, and food security. He said both countries should fully leverage the Global Partnership for Poverty Alleviation and Development and share their experiences in poverty alleviation and eradication and rural revitalization through the Global Poverty Reduction and Development Forum, the China-CELAC Forum on Poverty Reduction and Development, and other mechanisms. China will work with Brazil to further implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Promoting Social Development and Combating Hunger and Poverty signed in 2023, so as to achieve more outcomes in the fight against hunger and poverty, rural development, and social security. 

Deputy Minister Junior commended China’s contributions to global poverty reduction and expressed his appreciation to China for sharing its successful experiences. He said Brazil hopes to work with China to achieve better outcomes in poverty reduction, thereby benefiting more people.
