Global Partnership for Poverty Alleviation and Development Holds First Committee Meeting

The Global Partnership for Poverty Alleviation and Development (GPPAD) was launched in Beijing and held its first committee meeting on May 27. GPPAD was jointly initiated by 54 countries and nine international organizations. Representatives from founding countries and organizations attended the meeting. Zhang Zhu, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, attended the meeting and delivered remarks. 

Minister Zhang noted that eradicating poverty is a shared mission of humanity and has long been a key priority in national governance and ensuring social stability across countries and throughout history. President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation on poverty reduction and has proposed building a community with a shared future for mankind characterized by the eradication of poverty and common development. The establishment of GPPAD, a joint initiative of China and its partners, represents a concrete step toward implementing the Global Development Initiative (GDI) , a key response to the need to accelerate global poverty alleviation and a significant effort to improve the effectiveness of poverty alleviation policies worldwide. China stands ready to work with all parties to fully leverage GPPAD, jointly address risks and challenges, and advance the global fight against poverty. 

The meeting was chaired by Zhang Zhili, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. It reviewed and adopted the GPPAD Charter and the Three-Year Action Plan (2026–2028). Minister Zhang was elected GPPAD Committee Chair, while seven senior representatives from Côte d’Ivoire, Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan, South Africa, Uzbekistan, and the United Nations Development Programme were elected Vice-Chairs. During the meeting, participants shared a number of practical examples showcasing China’s experience in poverty alleviation and unveiled a number of early outcomes, including the GPPAD Youth Action Initiative.
