The 15th China Potato Expo opened in Weifang City, Shandong Province, China on October 27. The event, hosted by MARA Agricultural Trade Promotion Center, was attended by Chief Veterinary Officer Tao Huaiying.
CVO Tao emphasized that the Expo is an important initiative to implement President Xi Jinping’s important instructions on adopting an all-encompassing approach to food and strengthening local specialty industries. It also represents a concrete step toward fulfilling the decisions of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee on enhancing China’s overall agricultural productivity, quality, and efficiency, and advancing the modernization of agriculture.
He noted that amid mounting challenges to global food security, the potato industry is assuming greater strategic importance but also facing rising uncertainties in global supply chains. He called for stronger cooperation in technological innovation, integrated industrial development, trade promotion, and talent exchanges. He urged the Expo to adapt to new development trends, accelerate transformation and upgrading, and promote integrated growth of the potato and related specialty industries. These efforts, he said, would inject new momentum into rural revitalization and increase farmers incomes.
Under the theme “Revitalize the Potato Industry through Science and Technology, Shape the Future with Smart Innovation, this years Expo features five major exhibition zones showcasing seed potatoes, processed products, agricultural machinery and equipment, crop protection and agricultural inputs, as well as agricultural technology and culture. The Expo presents a comprehensive display of domestic and international products, technologies, and equipment across the full potato value chain. More than ten themed events are scheduled, including the International Potato Industry and Quality Specialty Agricultural Products Promotion Conference and a Potato Processing and Procurement Matchmaking Session. The event also highlights the achievements of Shandongs agri-food sector and the Weifang National Comprehensive Pilot Zone for Agriculture Opening up and Development.
Over 3,000 enterprises and buyers from 26 countries—including China, Peru, Chile, and the Republic of Korea—are participating in the Expo. The Expo has also attracted representatives from international organizations, including the FAO, WFP, and the International Potato Center, as well as executives from business associations from China and abroad.
