Minister Han Jun Co-chairs 20th Meeting of China–Netherlands High-Level Working Group on Agriculture

Minister Han Jun met with Femke Wiersma, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature of The Netherlands, in The Hague on October 14. The two ministers co-chaired the 20th Meeting of the China–Netherlands High-Level Working Group on Agriculture.    

Minister Han noted that, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, the open and pragmatic comprehensive cooperative partnership between China and The Netherlands has registered steady progress. Institutionalized dialogue and bilateral agricultural trade have maintained good momentum. Cooperation has deepened in key areas such as protected agriculture, seed industry, dairy, horticulture, livestock and veterinary services, and sustainable agricultural development. These efforts have enhanced complementarity of strengths, promoted mutual benefit and win–win outcomes, and yielded tangible results. 

Minister Han reaffirmed China’s commitment to an open and pragmatic approach, calling for strengthened dialogue and coordination to jointly foster a stable, transparent, and predictable environment for trade and investment. He proposed making full use of bilateral agricultural investment projects and the Agricultural Technology Innovation and Demonstration Center to advance agricultural trade, investment, and industrial cooperation. 

China stands ready to share best practices with The Netherlands in developing climate-resilient agriculture and promoting the digital and intelligent transformation of the agricultural sector. He also called for enhanced cooperation in plant health, animal disease control, and agricultural biodiversity conservation. 

Minister Wiersma stressed that The Netherlands attaches great importance to agricultural cooperation with China and sees broad prospects in the Chinese market. She agreed with Minister Han’s proposals on deepening bilateral agricultural exchanges and cooperation, expressing that The Netherlands is ready to enhance comprehensive communication and coordination with China. She also expressed willingness to further cooperation in agricultural trade and investment, biodiversity protection, plant variety rights protection, and the comprehensive utilization of saline-alkaline land. 

During his visit, Minister Han met with Chinese Ambassador to The Netherlands Tan Jian for working discussions. He also conducted field visits to learn about The Netherlands’ dairy processing, vegetable breeding, horticulture, and land-based aquaculture technology innovation. In addition, Minister Han visited leading Dutch agricultural enterprises, engaging in in-depth exchanges on future cooperation.
