Vice Minister Maierdan Mugaiti held discussions with Yandri Susanto, Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions of Indonesia, in Jakarta, on September 30, and co-chaired the inaugural meeting of the China–Indonesia Joint Committee on Agriculture together with Sudaryono, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Indonesia.
During his meeting with Minister Yandri Susanto, Vice Minister Maierdan Mugaiti commended the tangible progress achieved in recent years in building cooperation mechanisms and fostering personnel exchanges between the two sides. He proposed convening the first meeting of the China-Indonesia Working Group on Poverty Reduction and Rural Development in China, and further promoting training programs for Indonesian rural officials. Mugaiti also welcomed Indonesia’s active engagement in the Global Alliance for Poverty Reduction and Development initiated by China. Minister Susanto expressed appreciation for China’s continued support in the areas of poverty reduction and rural development, noting Indonesia’s readiness to enhance policy alignment and exchange of best practices through the above frameworks.
While co-chairing the meeting of the China-Indonesia Joint Committee on Agriculture with Deputy Minister Sudaryono, Vice Minister Maierdan Mugaiti suggested that bilateral cooperation focus on key crops such as rice, oil palm, and natural rubber, as well as on livestock and poultry production, including dairy cattle and chickens. He proposed technical cooperation in variety breeding and the prevention and control of animal and plant diseases through R&D, and demonstration projects, to help strengthen Indonesia’s agricultural production.
Vice Minister Maierdan Mugaiti also encouraged both sides to leverage the opportunities arising from the upgrading of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area to promote deeper economic and trade exchanges in agricultural products. Deputy Minister Sudaryono commended China’s achievements in agricultural development and food security, expressing Indonesia’s readiness to advance technical cooperation and expand economic, trade, and investment ties to elevate bilateral agricultural cooperation to a higher level.
During his visit to Indonesia, Vice Minister Mugaiti also conducted field studies in Antajaya and Sirnajaya villages in Bogor, and visited the Indonesian State Food Company where he gained insights into rural development, grain production and storage, and natural rubber processing practices.
