Vice Minister Zhang Zhili and Adam Fennessy, Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry of Australia, co-chaired the 15th meeting of the China-Australia Joint Committee on Agriculture in Brisbane on September 10. The two sides reviewed the progress in bilateral agricultural cooperation since the committee’s 14th meeting in 2023 and held in-depth discussions on key issues of common concern and the priorities for future bilateral cooperation.

Vice Minister Zhang noted that, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, bilateral agricultural cooperation has advanced steadily, yielding concrete results. He expressed Chinas readiness to work with Australia to broaden exchanges under existing mechanisms, deepen cooperation in agricultural science and technology, trade and investment, climate-smart agriculture, and fisheries, translating future priorities into concrete actions and tangible results. He proposed the establishment of a dedicated food security working group within the Joint Committee framework to strengthen communication on related matters.

Secretary Fennessy spoke highly of Australia–China agricultural cooperation and agreed with Vice Minister Zhang. He expressed Australia looks forward to continued information sharing and further progress in relevant fields, and to working jointly with China to implement the consensus reached at the meeting.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides signed the China–Australia action plan on promoting agricultural cooperation (2025–2029).
