The 16th International Agricultural Trade Policy Conference was held in Beijing on July 15. Zhang Zhili, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, attended the conference and delivered remarks.
Vice Minister Zhang stated that the Chinese government has always adhered to a national food security strategy that is self-sufficiency based on domestic grain production, guaranteeing production capacity, moderate imports, and technological support. While achieving absolute self-sufficiency in staple foods and firmly ensuring the food supply for its people, China is also actively integrating into the global agro-product market with an open attitude, promoting in-depth integration between domestic and international markets and resources.
In recent years, the superposition of multiple risks, including trade protectionism, regional conflicts, and climate change, has significantly increased uncertainty in global agro-trade. However, the active actions of the international community, the rapid rise of the “Global South” as development forces, and the vigorous emergence of a new wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation have provided important opportunities to address the global food crisis and improve food security.
China stands ready to work with all parties to achieve deeper and more substantive results in international agricultural cooperation on the basis of multilateralism, and safeguard the security and resilience of agricultural supply chains through openness and inclusiveness. It will also take the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind as a guide to advance the green transformation of agriculture and food security, thereby ensuring smooth global agro-trade and laying a solid foundation for global food security.
Li Xingqian, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Jean-Marie Paugam, WTO Deputy Director-General, Maximo Torero Cullen, FAO Chief Economist, and Franck Adjagba, Ambassador of Benin to China, attended the conference and delivered remarks. The 2025 China Agro-Trade Report was released during the conference.
