Vice Minister Zhang Xingwang Meets with Agriculture Minister of Ethiopia

Vice Minister Zhang Xingwang held a work meeting with Girma Amente, Minister of Agriculture of Ethiopia, in Addis Ababa on May 27. They exchanged views on deepening agricultural cooperation between China and Ethiopia. 

Vice Minister Zhang emphasized that agricultural cooperation between China and Ethiopia is underpinned by a sound foundation and holds broad prospects. He stated that China stands ready to work with Ethiopia to make full use of the expertise of the Chinese agricultural expert team stationed in Ethiopia and to translate the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation into concrete actions. These actions include strengthening agricultural technology training, promoting agricultural trade and investment, and jointly advancing poverty reduction projects, to deliver tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries through mutually beneficial cooperation.

Minister Amente expressed his appreciation for Chinas longstanding support for Ethiopias agricultural development and spoke highly of the notable progress in Ethiopia-China cooperation. He said that Ethiopia hopes to further enhance technology exchanges and capacity building in areas such as agricultural mechanization, and to learn from Chinas experience in enabling smallholder farmers to better access and benefit from the value-added segments of the agricultural value chain.         

During his visit to Ethiopia, Vice Minister Zhang inspected the China-Ethiopia Agricultural Technology Training Center and held discussions with members of the high-level Chinese agricultural expert team working in the country. He also traveled to a village in Ada’a District, Oromia Region, to attend the inauguration of the China-Ethiopia Demonstration Village for Agricultural Cooperation and Poverty Reduction, as well as the handover ceremony for donated agricultural supplies and equipment. While there, he visited local model households and gained firsthand insights into the development progress of the demonstration village.
