The 33rd meeting of the China–Russia Mixed Committee on Fishery Cooperation was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, from March 17–20. The two sides had an in-depth exchange on implementation of the Protocol Between the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation on Cooperation in the Protection, Adjustment and Proliferation of Fishery Resources in Border Waters of the Heilongjiang River and Ussuri River as well as implementation of the Cooperation Agreement Between the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation on Preventing, Stopping and Eliminating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing of Living Marine Resources. In addition, they discussed cooperation in marine fishing and fishery technology, among other issues of mutual concern, and signed the meeting minutes.

Both sides agreed that the China–Russia Mixed Committee on Fishery Cooperation has played a pivotal coordination role in deepening pragmatic cooperation in fisheries between China and Russia. Bilateral fishery cooperation under this mechanism, a model between neighboring countries, has continued to develop at a high level. The meeting reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation since the 32nd meeting of the Committee and finalized arrangements for 2025 regarding fishery management in border waters, fishery resources conservation, marine fishing, cracking down on the illegal trade in aquatic products, and fishery technology. The parties agreed to strengthen coordination of positions in bilateral and multilateral fishery affairs and deepen fishery cooperation in Russia’s Far East region. Furthermore, the two sides agreed to further expand areas of fishery cooperation, enrich the substance of cooperation, and explore new growth drivers in cooperation, thus taking China–Russia fishery cooperation to a higher level.
