Han Jun, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, met with Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the FAO, in Beijing on Jan. 8.
Minister Han said that in 2024, China’s grain output reached 700 million tonnes for the first time, showing that China has further enhanced its food security and made significant contributions to safeguarding global food security. He also said China firmly supports the leading role of FAO in global food and agricultural governance, and is willing to give full play to the role of the China–FAO Trust Fund under the framework of the Global Development Initiative to help developing countries improve their grain production capacity and agricultural productivity.
Director-General Qu spoke highly of China's important contribution to global food security. He said FAO hopes to further deepen cooperation with China in areas such as South–South cooperation and tropical agriculture. He also cordially invited China to attend the event celebrating FAO’s 80th anniversary.
Vice Minister Zhang Zhili attended the meeting.
