The 14th Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Agriculture was held in Moscow on June 28. The meeting featured in-depth discussions on topics such as sustainable agricultural production and agro-trade. Ma Youxiang, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, led a delegation to the meeting and delivered a keynote speech.
Vice Minister Ma said the Chinese government has always prioritized ecological conservation and green development. By strengthening strategic planning, fostering innovation, enhancing rural development, and promoting high-quality opening-up, China aims to tap the potential of agricultural production and boost resilience. China stands ready to work with all parties to further deepen agricultural cooperation among BRICS countries and actively contribute to the food security of BRICS countries and the world.
To this end, the vice minister put forth three suggestions: 1) Consolidate cooperation foundation. Guided by the BRICS Strategy on Food Security Cooperation, BRICS countries should refine the content of cooperation, innovate new models, and carry out pragmatic cooperation. 2) Enhance policy coordination. BRICS countries should further step up cooperation, improve synergy, and safeguard the interests of emerging markets, developing countries, and the global community. 3) Seek mutually beneficial cooperation. BRICS countries should firmly uphold the multilateral trading system with WTO rules at the center, promote agro-trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, stabilize agro-product supply and demand, and ensure stable, secure, and undisrupted agricultural industry and supply chains.
This year’s meeting was chaired by Oksana Lut, Russian Minister of Agriculture. Representatives from BRICS countries attended the meeting. The Joint Declaration of the 14th Meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Agriculture was adopted.
