FAO Awarded Certificates to Four Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems Sites in China

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) awarded certificates to Globally Important Agricultural Cultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) sites in Rome, Italy, on May 22. A total of 24 newly designated GIAHS sites from 12 countries were honored at the ceremony, which was the first such ceremony held since 2020. Four Chinese sites were included: the Ar Horqin Grassland Nomadic System in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the Shexian Dryland Stone Terraced System in Hebei Province, the Anxi Tieguanyin Tea Culture System in Fujian Province, and the Qingyuan Forest-Mushroom Co-culture System in Zhejiang Province. 

China boasts the most GIAHS sites in the world as a total of 19 traditional agricultural systems in China have been added to the GIAHS list to date.
