Ma Youxiang, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, met with U Min Naung, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Myanmar, Mohamad Sabu, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia, and Stanley Loh Ka Leung, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment of Singapore, respectively, in Beijing on Apr. 25. They exchanged views on deepening bilateral agricultural cooperation.
In his meeting with U Min Naung, Ma Youxiang said China is ready to implement more high-quality production demonstration and technical exchange projects with Myanmar, under the Lancang-Mekong agricultural cooperation mechanism, and further boost China-Myanmar agro-trade. U Min Naung expressed his appreciation for China’s long-term assistance and support for Myanmar’s agricultural development, saying that Myanmar is willing to work with China and take China-Myanmar agricultural cooperation to a new level.
In his meeting with Mohamad Sabu, Ma Youxiang suggested that the two sides make better use of the China-Malaysia Joint Working Group on Agriculture and support agricultural institutes in carrying out joint research in areas such as soil remediation, digital agriculture, and pest and disease prevention and control. Mohamad Sabu spoke highly of China-Malaysia agricultural cooperation and agreed with the key areas of future joint research.
In his meeting with Stanley Loh Ka Leung, Ma Youxiang said China will make more efforts in strengthening policy communication and synergizing strategies with Singapore. It will also deepen bilateral S&T cooperation in areas such as biological breeding and climate-smart agriculture. Stanley Loh Ka Leung said he looked forward to seeing more results in agricultural S&T cooperation that may facilitate sustainable agricultural development at an early date.
