The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) released the Report on Development of Rural Living Environment in China (2022) (Green Paper) in Beijing on Mar. 17. Liu Huanxin, Deputy Director of the Office of the Central Leading Group for Rural Affairs and Head of the National Rural Revitalization Administration (NRRA), and Wu Kongming, President of CAAS, attended the event and delivered remarks. Yang Zhenhai, Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group of CAAS, presided over the event.
Liu pointed out that the report looks at issues from a big-picture perspective, proposes concrete and down-to-earth solutions, and is highly instructive. It is a practical means of thoroughly implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s key instructions on improving rural living environment. President Wu expected that the report will enable more people to learn about, pay attention to and support actions that improve rural living environment, thus providing strong support for comprehensively promoting rural revitalization.
During the event, Mei Xurong, Vice President of CAAS, released the report. By focusing on farmers as a major part increating better rural living environment, the report analyzes the current status of farmers’ role and existing weaknesses in that role, and makes the following suggestions: First, compile special plans for rural living environment improvement at county levels. Second, push for R&D and application of appropriate technologies. Third, improve the standards in rural living environment. Fourth, set up a robust and well-rounded monitoring system for rural living environment. Fifth, enhance farmers' willingness and capacity for participating in relevant work.
Heads of relevant departments of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and NRRA, heads of relevant departments and research institutes of CAAS, and representatives of the China Foundation for Rural Development and the Social Sciences Academic Press participated. The event was also broadcast live on China Media Group Mobile, Sina Weibo, the official Douyin and Kuaishou accounts for China Rural Living Environment, and other online platforms.
