Meanwhile, CATAS has also provided technical assistance regarding tropical agriculture in tropical areas across the globe.

President Huang added that Chinas breakthroughs in breeding specialty crops (such as vitis retordii) and food crops (such as potatoes) have helped increase farmers income and boost industry development. He stressed that CATAS, as an FAO research and training reference center of tropical agriculture, stands ready to strengthen cooperation with international organizations and relevant institutions, and give full play to CATAS’s S&T strength to increase agricultural productivity in marginal agricultural areas around the world.

Guests present at the forum were impressed by the ecological and economic benefits of CATAS’s practice. They also expressed appreciation for CATAS’s willingness to boost international cooperation. International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development and other institutions expressed their hope to establish partnerships with CATAS on the forum.

The FAO Science and Innovation Forum was held together with the World Food Forum and the first Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum at FAO headquarters in Rome in a hybrid modality.
