Vice Minister Ma Youxiang led the Chinese delegation to the Seventh APEC Food Security Ministerial Meeting via video link on Aug. 26, 2022. 

Vice Minister Ma Youxiang noted that against the backdrop of severe food security challenge globally, it is of great significance for APEC members to intensify cooperation in key areas identified by APEC’s Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030  and to jointly map out the implementation plan of the Roadmap. It is also conducive to global and regional food security. As the shepherd for a number of tasks, China has worked out corresponding and detailed action plans and will deliver on the Roadmap in pragmatic manner.    

Reiterating that China attaches great importance to food security, Vice Minister Ma emphasized that China has ensured food security for its 1.4 billion people, contributing greatly to global food security. The key cooperation areas set down in the China-proposed Global Development Initiative are highly aligned with the purpose and content of APEC’s Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030. China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with APEC economies in digital technology, S&T innovation, food loss and waste reduction, and soil health, and enhance South-South and triangular cooperation in agriculture, enabling a more resilient food system for APEC region and contributing to the realization of UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. 

Recognizing three priorities, namely being open to all opportunities, connected in all dimensions and balanced in all aspects, the Meeting was chaired by Chalermchai Sri-On, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand, the host country. The Implementation Plan for APEC’s Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030 was endorsed at the Meeting.
