To implement President Xi’s important commitment to Phase III of the China-FAO South-South Cooperation (SSC) Trust Fund, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) recently signed the General Agreement on Phase III of the China-FAO South-South Cooperation Trust Fund Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. According to the general agreement, China will donate $50 million to FAO to accelerate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and promote the common development of developing countries, with a focus on key areas of cooperation on global development initiatives such as poverty reduction and food security. The initial contribution of $30 million has already been made.

Since the formal establishment of the China-FAO South-South Cooperation Trust Fund in 2009, China has already announced donations to FAO of $130 million, and has implemented 25 SSC projects. More than 300 Chinese experts in host countries have empowered local people by sharing Chinese experience and technology, and have helped other developing countries further safeguard food security and increase their comprehensive grain production capacity. The Fund has benefited 100,000 small farmers directly and millions indirectly, and has contributed greatly to global food security and poverty reduction.
