The 3rd Chinese Farmers’ Film Festival, as part of the 2020 Chinese Farmers’ Harvest Festival, held a launch ceremony at the China Agriculture Film and Television Center on Sept. 23. Guang Defu, Chief Agronomist and Director General of the General Office of MARA, attended the kickoff ceremony and announced opening of the film festival.

The Chinese Farmers’ Film Festival was first launched in 2018 and since then it has become an essential part of the Chinese Farmers’ Harvest Festival. Under the theme of “Poverty Eradication and Rural Revitalization in Building a Moderately Prosperous Society in All Respects,” the film festival this year is co-organized by MARA’s General Office, the China Film Association, and the China Agriculture Film and Television Center.

An outstanding-film promotion program entitled “New Era, New Farmers and New Films” will be debuted at the festival. Nominated films will compete in four categories, namely, Excellent Educational Films, Excellent Feature Films, Excellent Documentaries, and the Most Popular Farmer-made Short Videos. Nominations will be made by experts from industrial associations, academic societies and other professional institutions. The festival will follow a new model combining a month of non-profit online screenings at “cloud cinemas” and nationwide mobile film projections for rural farmers and residents. Concurrently, the festival will also organize a thematic forum, a screenplay writing seminar, and some rural tours for filmmaking inspiration. The official opening ceremony gala for the festival will be held on Oct. 10 in Runan County, Zhumadian City, Henan Province.

The 3rd Chinese Farmers’ Film Festival has five celebration venues in Jiangsu, Jilin, Hebei, Guizhou and Henan Provinces, separately. The festival will screen a slew of films highlighting China's achievements in poverty alleviation and revitalization of the countryside.
