Han Changfu, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, attended the 19th AMAF plus Three (China, Japan and South Korea) in Brunei Darussalam and delivered a keynote speech on October 16.
Han gave a systematic review of the work done by the Chinese side since the 18th AMAF Plus Three, focusing on China’s cooperation with relevant countries under this mechanism in the areas of ensuring food security in the region and emergency rice assistance, promoting regional agricultural trade and investment, and deepening bilateral and multilateral exchanges and cooperation. Han specifically proposed cooperative initiatives to expand trade in agricultural products, strengthen agricultural investment cooperation, and enhance the sharing of scientific and technological exchanges. Han’s comments received a positive response and were warmly welcomed by all parties at the meeting.
The meeting fully approved the progress made in implementing the Cooperation Strategy for ASEAN Plus Three on Food, Agriculture and Forestry (APTCS) 2016-2025. Attendees discussed issues of common interest such as guaranteeing food security, strengthening disease prevention and control for animals and plants, conducting capacity building in the region, and improving agricultural productivity. They also released a joint statement.
During the meeting, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam received Han Changfu and other head of the delegations.
