The China-France Agricultural Science and Technology Cooperation Symposium was held in Beijing on June 1. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of France, and was organized by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) of France. The symposium is one of the major actions to implement the consensus reached by the presidents of both countries and the resolution of the 14th Meeting of the China-France Joint Committee on Science and Technology.
Zhao Jing, Deputy-Director of the Department of International Cooperation of MOST, Laurent Bili, Ambassador of France to China, and Yu Jinsong, Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in France, attended the symposium and delivered remarks. The symposium reviewed achievements in Sino-French cooperation in agricultural S&T innovation; held academic talks in key areas of cooperation such as crop science, tropical agriculture, plant protection, and agroecology; and exchanged views on modes of Sino-French cooperation in agricultural S&T in the new era. Sun Tan, Vice President of CAAS, held talks with French Ambassador Laurent Bili, and signed a cooperation agreement with Philippe Mauguin, Chair of INRAE. CAAS and INRAE will further promote pragmatic cooperation in S&T areas of common concern regarding agriculture, food and environment.
More than 60 representatives from government departments and research institutes of both countries participated either in person or via video conference. (Correspondent: Zhang Shuang)
