China-Argentina Biogas Center Inaugurated

The inauguration of the China-Argentina Biogas Development and Cooperation Center, a joint project of the Biogas Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China (BIOMA) and the National Agricultural Technology Institute of Argentina (INTA), was held in Chengdu on April 19. Tang Huajun, President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), attended the ceremony and delivered remarks.

 

Tang pointed out that the establishment of the Center indicates that the China-Argentina Joint Plan of Action (2019-2023) is being earnestly implemented. What’s more, it’s part of the beautiful vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind. Tang said China and Argentina should further consolidate their consensus and make continuous efforts to achieve breakthroughs in basic researches and key technological R&D of biogas science, to the benefit of the people of both countries. The two sides should also deepen and strengthen pragmatic cooperation to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

 

Wang Dengshan, Director-General of BIOMA, and Hernan Anibal Viola, Agriculture Counselor of the Argentinian Embassy in China, jointly announced the opening of the Center. In the following three years, the Center is set to conduct joint researches, trainings, demonstration events and case studies, with focuses on shared issues and problems of both China and Argentina. The establishment of the Center aims to lay the foundation for integrated development of biogas industry, academia and research institutions, promote China-Argentina strategic cooperation in agricultural clean energies, deepen and expand the South-South cooperation between China and Latin America, and accelerate the global progress towards carbon emission reduction and carbon neutrality.

 

Besides the main venue in Chengdu, the inauguration also had several subvenues including CAAS, the Chinese Embassy in Argentina, and the INTA. Zou Xiaoli, Chinese Ambassador to Argentina, Wei Zhenglin, Deputy-Director of Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Affairs, Zhang Yechu, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Sichuan Province, and leaders from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Argentina, the INTA, the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations attended the ceremony and delivered remarks. Leaders from Department of International Cooperation of CAAS, and representatives from BIOMA also participated the event.(Correspondent: Pu Hongyu)
