Webinar on China-ASEAN Tropical Seaweed Industry Development Convenes

A webinar themed “The Development of China-ASEAN Tropical Seaweed Industry: Opportunities and Solutions” was held in the Institute of Tropical Bioscience and Biotechnology of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences on June 22. All research staff and graduate students of the Tropical Marine Life Resource Research Center of the Institute attended the webinar. Researcher Bao Shixiang chaired the webinar.

 

A number of overseas experts joined Chinese experts and participated in the webinar. Keynote speakers included famous Chinese and foreign seaweed researchers like Prof. Lim Phaik-Eem of the University of Malaya, Prof. Chou Hong-Nong of the Malaysia Campus of Xiamen University, Prof. Mao Yunxiang, Vice President of Hainan Tropical Ocean University, Researcher Wang Guangce of the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Researcher Li Laihao and Dr. Wang Yueqi of the South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, and Researcher Lin Xiangzhi of the Third Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources. The participants had a deep-going discussion about the current status, developments, challenges and opportunities of China-ASEAN tropical seaweed resource researches and utilization. They also put forward proposals and suggestions on relevant studies and industrial development, and called for seeking new research collaboration mechanisms. Professor Mao Yunxiang, Researcher Wang Guangce and Researcher Li Laihao delivered academic reports at the webinar.

 

The webinar played a positive role in strengthening the implementation of the “China-ASEAN Cooperation in Tropical Seaweed Resources Research HOME Program Work Center”, and promoted international exchanges and cooperation in tropical seaweed researches.
