The 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Modern Agriculture Development Roundtable was held in Yangling, Shaanxi Province, on Oct. 25. Wu Kongming, Member of the CPC Leadship Group of the MARA and President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, attended the Roundtable and delivered remarks.
Wu emphasized China's commitment to building a greener, more resilient and sustainable food system. He highlighted China's achievements in areas such as low-carbon development, emission reduction, technological innovation, farmland protection, and smart agriculture. Wu also expressed China's willingness to work with SCO members to deepen policy dialogue, promote economic and trade cooperation, and support the SCO Demonstration Base for Agricultural Technology Exchange and Training in playing a bigger role in the capacity building of agricultural professionals. These efforts, he noted, will further contribute to safeguarding regional and global food security and advancing sustainable agricultural development.
The Roundtable, themed “Sustainable Agricultural Development—Smart Agriculture and Green Development”, was co-hosted by the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province and the SCO Secretariat. Zhao Gang, Governor of Shaanxi Province, attended the Roundtable and delivered remarks. Representatives from the agricultural departments of SCO countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Pakistan, as well as the Eurasian Economic Union, participated in the event and associated activities.
