The Sixth Meeting of the Agriculture Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States was convened via video link on August 12. Li Jinxiang, National Chief Veterinary Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, led the Chinese delegation to the meeting.
Li said that over the past 20 years since the founding of the SCO, member states have always regarded agriculture as a key area of cooperation. By refining agricultural cooperation mechanisms and conducting frequent exchanges, the SCO has achieved fruitful results and become a model of regional agricultural cooperation. Li also exchanged views with other participants on the food security situation in the SCO region against the backdrop of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He called on other member states to enhance agricultural cooperation mechanisms, strengthen industrial and supply chains, and firm up the foundation for cooperation.
The meeting reviewed and approved the Concept of Establishing the SCO Demonstration Base for the Exchange and Training in Agricultural Technologies. Li said the base to be built in Shaanxi Province aims to serve the SCO countries and is open to the world. Following the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, China will make every effort to promote the establishment of the base so as to make greater contributions to the development of modern agriculture in the SCO region.
