Ningxia National Open Development Comprehensive Pilot Zone for Grape and Wine Industry was inaugurated on July 10, 2021 in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Vice Minister Ma Youxiang addressed the ceremony.
The Pilot Zone is to be developed jointly by the MARA, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the People’s Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (NHAR).
Vice Minister Ma Youxiang emphasized in his speech that the development of the Pilot Zone represents a significant opportunity to upgrade the wine industry in Ningxia and the entire country, calling for turning the grape industry into a pillar industry for rural revitalization.
Dr. Qu Dongyu, Director General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, sent a congratulatory letter on the launch of the Pilot Zone, expressing his wish that the Pilot Zone would spur better production, better environment and better lives in Ningxia and western China.
Julien Denormandie, France’s Food and Agricultural Minister, said in a video message that he hoped China-France cooperation in the wine industry could yield productive outcome. Pau Roca, Director General of the International Organization of Vine and Wine, expressed that he looks forward to conducting comprehensive and practical cooperation with Ningxia.
Relevant activities were also held, including the establishment of the Committee of Experts for the Pilot Zone, a development forum and business talks on wine.
Nearly 300 participants attended these activities, including ambassadors and diplomats from the Chilean and Moldovan embassies in China, officials from Ningxia Government and relevant ministries, representatives from key grape-producing regions and wine industry.
