13th Meeting of China-EU Dialogue on Agriculture and Rural Development Held

The 13th meeting of the China-EU Dialogue on Agriculture and Rural Development was held on Dec. 8, 2020 via video link. Vice Minister Zhang Taolin and Wolfgang Burtscher, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) of the European Commission addressed the meeting. 

Vice Minister Zhang pointed out that China and the EU have much in common and also complement each other in terms of agricultural and rural development environments, conditions, concepts, and technologies. The cooperation in agriculture and rural development has become an integral part of China-EU relations.  

Despite of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, China and the EU have achieved positive results in cooperation in such areas as geographical indications, agricultural trade and agricultural S&T this year. Vice Minister Zhang proposed that both parties should seize this historic opportunity to further cooperative relations, strengthen cooperation mechanisms and broaden cooperation, and enhance multilateral coordination to expand influence of China-EU cooperation in agriculture at the next step.   

Director-General Burtscher expressed appreciation for the cooperation between China and the EU over the past year and expressed the EU’s willingness to further agricultural cooperation in various fields with China. 

At the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on agricultural policies, agricultural technology and innovation, market access for agricultural products and cooperation priorities.
