18th China International Agricultural Trade Fair Closes in Chongqing

The 18th China International Agricultural Trade Fair (CATF) and the 20th Western China (Chongqing) International Agricultural Trade Fair closed in Chongqing on Nov. 30. A transaction amount of RMB 41.8 billion was achieved at the fair, 9.8% higher than last year. The next fair will be held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.

 

This year’s CATF put an emphasis on deepening market-oriented reform, promoting industry-based poverty alleviation and expanding marketing efforts for agricultural brands. It brought together over 300 exhibitors, twice more than those in the last CATF. Exhibitors included COFCO, China Mobile, Syngenta, Beijing Capital Agrobusiness & Food Group, China Beidahuang Industry Group, Guangdong Hengxing Group, and other leading enterprises in the industry. During the fair, a variety of businesses and social media platforms such as Alibaba, Tiktok (known as Douyin in China), WeChat, Kuaishou and 3nongntv provided live commerce and attracted an offline audience of 300,000 people as well as 50 million online viewers. Major hosts collectively generated more than RMB 100 million in sales. Eighty-seven activities were organized, including buyer sessions, business matchmaking sessions, promotional events for premium agro-products, investment and financing conferences and signing ceremonies, recording more than RMB 110 billion in deals and 52 large-scale projects for rural revitalization worth RMB 33.8 billion.


Thirteen major events were held during this year’s CATF, including a forum on sustainable development of specialty industries in areas that have shaken off poverty; a forum on the development of digital villages; and a forum on agro-investment risks and developing Sannong with the support of social capital. The fair also featured 53 side events intended to promote agro-product brands and facilitate agricultural sales. At the closing session on Nov. 30, a series of honorary titles were announced, such as the Most Popular Agro-product, Most Influential Brand, Excellent Exhibitors, Best Buyers, Best Hosts, and Best Sponsors.
