20th annual meeting of China-ROK Joint Committee on Fisheries held

The 20th annual meeting of the China- Republic of Korea Joint Committee on Fisheries was held earlier November, 2020 via the video.   

  

The two sides reviewed 2020 implementation of the China-ROK Fisheries Agreement, and had in-depth consultation on the implementation of the Agreement in 2021, including fishing access into each other’s exclusive economic zones (EEZs), maintaining order in fishing operation and conserving fishery resources. A minutes was signed at the end of the meeting.  

  

Under the minutes, the numbers of fishing vessels and fishing quotas in 2021 remain respective 2020 levels in fishing access to each other’s EEZs. China and ROK will strengthen the supervision over fishing operation in waters covered by the agreement, implement interim measures for resource conservation, and conduct exchanges and cooperation on marine litter control.  

  

China-ROK Fisheries Agreement, which came into effect in 2001, is a provisional arrangement for fishing activities regulation in the Yellow Sea prior to the maritime demarcation. Under this Agreement, China-ROK Joint Committee on Fisheries meets annually to make specific arrangement for fishing operation in the Yellow Sea for the next year. 

  

In 2020, China and ROK also had meetings on maritime resources and law enforcement, and preparatory meetings for this annual meeting.
