The Symposium on Green Development in Rural Areas was held in Yuncheng, Shanxi Province on Sept. 22, 2020.
Being a part of the festivities for 2020 Chinese Farmers’ Harvest Festival and hosted by the Festival’s Organizing and Steering Committee, the Symposium aimed at brainstorming approaches to and measures for green development in rural areas in China. The Symposium focused on high-quality and sustainable development, and revitalization in rural areas in the Yellow River Basin while improving ecosystem conservation.
The Symposium indicated that green development represents the calling of agricultural and rural development, an integral part of rural revitalization and a key direction for supply-side structural reform in agriculture.
It is agreed by participants at the Symposium that green development shall be leveraged in driving rural revitalization and agricultural modernization. To this end, the Symposium made the following suggestions: 1) New concepts or philosophies on rural development should be developed to further break through the mental blocks that inhibit agricultural green development; 2) Technological innovation should be enhanced to promote the upgrading of eco-friendly technologies and equipment; 3) Governments at all levels should rolled out new policies and measures for the benefit of green development in agriculture; and 4) Agricultural green development should be standard-based, big data-based and market-oriented.
Chairman of the China Agricultural Green Development Research Association Yu Xinrong, Vice Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Li Wuzhang, joined in the Symposium. Representatives from nine provinces and autonomous regions along the course of the Yellow River participated the Symposium.
