MARA sent another eight working groups to Anhui, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, and Hunan provinces and Chongqing City in support of local flood control and disaster relief work on July 23, 2020.
Earlier July, MARA sent expert groups to flood-hit provinces for flood relief guidance. In addition, MARA has developed a technical guidance to post-disaster agricultural recovery in the mid- and lower reaches of the Yangtze River to minimize losses brought by the flood.
These working groups will inspect the embankments, levees and dams to have the first-hand information of damage to facilities, visit the flood control workers, and come up with measures for flood control, relief and post-disaster agricultural recovery.
The working groups will facilitate agricultural recovery by mobilizing and coordinating the input of agricultural machinery to accelerate water drainage in farmlands. The working groups will urge harvest, drying and storage of early rice and offer guidance to late rice planting.
The working groups will urge and supervise plant diseases and pests control and animal diseases control. Cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting in affected areas will be conducted to prevent the spread of illness and diseases. Efforts will be intensified to monitor the movement of fall armyworm, rice planthopper and rice leaf-folder swarm.
The working groups will assist the local agricultural authorities in dealing with practical problems in flood relief, particularly the availability of relief supplies.
Since June, heavy rainstorms have triggered severe flooding in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, causing significant damage to local agricultural production.
