MARA upgrades emergency response for flood control to level II

MARA activated a level- II emergency response for flood control in the flood-hit areas on July 14, 2020 after rainstorms triggered heavy floods in South China.  

  

MARA has taken a series of emergency measures to maximize the loss by rapid response, targeted measures and science-based mitigation and relief.  MARA made specific arrangement on the following areas: 

  

MARA sent expert groups to Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei and Hunan Provinces. The expert group will evaluate the impact of the flood on agriculture and rural residents. Based on the evaluation, MARA and the local competent departments will work together to step up flood control and relief, and work out specific plan for post-disaster recovery.  

  

MARA will enhance collecting disaster information and update it. The affected regions shall run a 24-hour duty system and brief MARA on flood control and relief in a timely manner.   

  

MARA will enhance guidance on flood relief  by coordinating agricultural machinery into drainage operation, early rice and vegetable harvest and field management. MARA will take measures to prevent animal diseases from occurring  in post-disaster.  

  

MARA will provide greater support by granting fund for disaster relief and recovery, and coordinating seeds for flood-stricken regions as necessary.  

  

China has a four-tier flood control emergency response system.
