An executive meeting, chaired by Minister Han Changfu, was held on July 13 to discuss and set priorities for agricultural and rural development work of the second half of 2020. The meeting stressed that it is imperative to attach great importance to the work relating to agriculture, rural areas and farmers, and take pragmatic, effective and extraordinary measures in a bid to complete the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects and achieve poverty alleviation targets. We should improve the work in the second half of the year, ensure annual grain output to stay above 650 billion kg and swine production to return to a near-normal level, and meet this year’s main targets for agricultural and rural development.
The meeting pointed out that MARA has worked hard to reduce the COVID-19 pandemic impacts and taken concrete measures to accomplish its key tasks. The summer grain output has seen a bumper harvest again, and we have ensured amply supply of key agricultural products with stable prices. Overall, agriculture and rural economy have maintained stable with a good momentum.
The meeting emphasized that it is also important to be soberly aware of the difficulties and challenges facing agriculture and rural economy. We should closely monitor the latest developments of the pandemic and natural disasters and conduct science-based studies accordingly. Special attention should be paid to the impacts of natural disasters on autumn crop production, issues concerning farmers' employment and income, and fluctuations in domestic and overseas agricultural markets, so as to solve problems in a timely manner and avoid disruptions of sound agricultural and rural development with resolute measures.
