IFST Shares China’s Measures for Safeguarding Food Security

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, Lyon Metropolis, and the New Franco-Chinese Institute jointly held the New Franco-Chinese Institute economic forum “Food and the Future” in Lyon, France, on Nov. 9. The participants discussed the future of the global food supply, food quality assurance, rational food consumption, environmental protection, and human health, among other topics. 


During the opening ceremony, the Institute of Food Science and Technology of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IFST) delivered a report on “Contributing Chinese Strength to Global Food Security.” IFST shared China's key measures for feeding its people with nutritious and healthy food, in the premise of utilizing and protecting resources efficiently, and fully respecting the harmony between mankind and the environment. In the face of worsening climate change and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, IFST called upon the world to stick to sustainable development and work together to safeguard global food security 

In the forum, experts discussed the reduction of food loss and waste, food security, climate change, S&T innovation and biodiversity. They reached consensus on many issues and achieved fruitful results. 

Lu Qingjiang, Consul General of China in Lyon, and more than 100 representatives from academia, businesses and nongovernmental organizations in the field of food and health in China and France participated the event. (Correspondent: Du Ke)
