Second International Tropical Industry Fair Closes

Under the theme of “Health and Scientific Consumption”, the 2nd International Tropical Industry Fair (“Tropical Fair”) was held in Guangzhou from Nov. 8 to 10. It was jointly hosted by the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS), the Chinese Society for Tropical Crops (CSTC) and other agencies. 

At the opening ceremony, Liu Guodao, CSTC Chairman, delivered a speech on behalf of the hosting organizations, while representatives from international organizations, such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International (CABI), and foreign government officials, including the Minister of National Food Security and Research of Pakistan, the Minister for Health of Papua New Guinea, and the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of the Congo, sent congratulatory videos.

Covering an exhibition area of over 20,000 square meters, the 2021 Tropical Fair attracted more than 150 exhibitors comprising leading companies and research institutes in tropical industries from China and abroad along with around 50,000 visitors. It fully displayed the industry’s great development potential and tenacity against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

 

Launching the 2021 Tropical Fair 

During the event, the China-Africa Tropical Agricultural S&T Innovation Alliance was founded. And the alliance adopted its constitution and action plan and announced its members. To date, it has received voluntary applications from 12 Chinese agricultural science and education institutions as well as 13 state-level agricultural science and education institutions from 10 African countries.

Thirteen CATAS-affiliated entities presented the academy’s changes and achievements during China’s 13th Five-year Plan (2016-2020) in scientific and technological innovation, application of research outcomes, international cooperation, institutional governance and other fields. The highlights were 121 commercialized research products and new technologies.

The Tropical Fair is committed to building an international platform that serves the nation’s strategies and facilitates communication, exchanges and trade among tropical and subtropical countries. It showcases, both online and offline, the plentiful resources and provides abundant opportunities in tropical industries. As a joint cause for tropical countries around the world, it will continue to promote closer cooperation among governments, enterprises, and related parties at all levels.
