The Group of 77 and China (G77 & China) – Rome Chapter held a plenary session virtually on March 15. At the meeting, Ambassador Carlos B. Cherniak, Permanent Representative of Argentina to the UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture, succeeded Ambassador Esti Andayani, Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture, as the new chair of the G77 & China - Rome Chapter.
Ambassador Niu Dun, Permanent Representative of China to the UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture, attended the meeting and delivered remarks. Ambassador Niu expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Esti Andayani, and highly commended her excellent work over the past year. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, member states of the G77 & China, under the leadership of Ambassador Esti Andayani, stood more united and further cooperated with Rome-based UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, International Fund for Agricultural Development, and World Food Programme). Ambassador Niu congratulated Ambassador Carlos B. Cherniak on taking over as the new chair of the G77 & China – Rome Chapter, and expressed China’s support for his future work. Ambassador Niu said that China will, as always, uphold and practice multilateralism, and actively support the justice propositions and reasonable claims of the G77 members. The Chinese government will continue to play a constructive role and contribute to safeguarding the global governance of food and agriculture.
