G77 and China - Rome Chapter Holds Plenary Session

The G77 and China - Rome Chapter held a plenary session on Jan. 29, 2021.  

  

The meeting was moderated by Ms. Esti Andayani, Chair of the G77 and China - Rome Chapter and Indonesian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the FAO. The representative from China’s Permanent Representation to the U.N. Agencies for Food and Agriculture joined the virtual meeting, along with other representatives of member states.  

 

The meeting briefed on the governing body meetings held by the three U.N. agencies for food and agriculture since the previous plenary session in November 2020, including the 165th Session of the FAO Council, the 131st Session of the Executive Board of IFAD, and the 73rd Extraordinary Session of the Committee on Commodity Problems. Preparations for upcoming meetings of these Rome-based agencies (RBA) were also introduced at the meeting.  

  

Carlos Cherniak, Vice-Chair of the G77 and China - Rome Chapter and Argentina’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the FAO, briefed current financial conditions of the G77 and China Secretariat, and how the amount allocated from additional contribution to the China-FAO South-South Trust Fund was utilized for the Secretariat. 

  

Representatives of G77 countries thanked China. The Chinese representative noted that China attaches great importance to cooperation with other developing countries and China stands ready to work with other countries to promote the unity within G77 and China to make members’ voices heard.
